  26.   The  Student  Version  of  the  "Statistical  Package  for  the
  27. Personal  Computer" or SPPC program is ready for you to use.  All 
  28. you need to do is make a working copy of the program.
  29.  
  30.   If  you  are using a dual floppy system, make a working copy of 
  31. the program by copying all the SPPC distribution  diskettes  onto
  32. formatted blank floppies. 
  33.  
  34.   If you are using a hard disk system,  follow  the  installation
  35. instructions  shown below.  You may store the program on any hard
  36. disk you wish.

  47.            !!! RESEARCH AND STATISTICS INSTRUCTORS !!!

  49.   If  you are teaching research or statistics courses and want to 
  50. avoid the complexity of instructing students in the use of  large
  51. mainframe statistical packages, you may want to consider adopting
  52. the  Student Version of the SPPC program for use in your courses. 
  53. The Student Version is very powerful  yet  costs  nothing.   Just
  54. copy  the  Student Version of the SPPC diskettes and give them to
  55. your students.  
  56.  
  57.   Better  yet, if you install your copy of the Student Version on 
  58. a hard disk system or a LAN (Local Area  Network)  your  students
  59. may make their own copy with considerable ease.  All they need to
  60. do is log onto the root directory of your hard disk and issue the
  61. command

  67.               INSTALLING SPPC ON A HARD DISK SYSTEM 
  68.  
  69.   It is also very easy to install the  SPPC  on  your  hard  disk
  70. system  if  you  have  one.  Here's all you need to do.  Put your
  71. SPPC Disk 1 in Drive A and issue the command
  72.  
  73.      A:INSTALL DRIVE: <cr>  
  74.  
  75. where DRIVE is the letter of the hard disk that you wish to  use.
  76. For example, if you want to install your copy of SPPC on Drive C,
  77. issue the command
  78.  
  79.      A:INSTALL C: <cr> 
  80.  
  81.   On  the other hand, if you want to install your copy of SPPC on
  82. Drive D or E, issue one of the following commands.  Note: be sure
  83. to include the drive letter and the colon!
  84.

  86.      A:INSTALL E: <cr> 
  87.  
  88.   The  automated INSTALL procedure will then install your working 
  89. copy of the entire program on the hard disk that  you  designate.
  90. Just follow the instructions that will appear on screen.

  93.                LOCAL AREA NETWORKS OR LAN SYSTEMS
  94.  
  95.   If  you  wish to use the Student Version of the SPPC on a local 
  96. area network or LAN system, you should print  the  User's  Manual
  97. and  read  the  Technical  Appendix.  The Student Version of SPPC 
  98. works just fine on  a  protected  LAN  system  and  is  therefore
  99. immediately available to all of your students.

  102.                      USING THE SPPC PROGRAM
  103.  
  104.   Once  you  have  a  working copy of the SPPC program, on floppy
  105. diskettes or on your hard disk, it is ready to use.
  106.  
  107.  
  108. FLOPPY DISK USERS
  109.  
  110.   If you plan to use the SPPC program on floppy diskettes with  a
  111. dual  floppy  system,  always  begin  the program by putting your 
  112. working copy of the SPPC Disk 1  in  Drive  A.   Then  issue  the
  113. commands

  119. HARD DISK USERS
  120.  
  121.   If you have installed your copy of the  SPPC  program  on  your
  122. hard disk, always begin the program by issuing the commands

  127.   If  you  are using DOS 3.1 or higher, you should also know that 
  128. you can call up the SPPC program from any directory on your  hard
  129. disk.  All you need to do is issue the command
  130.

  134.                       THE SPPC OUTPUT DISK 
  135.  
  136.   If  you will be using the SPPC program on a dual floppy system, 
  137. you MUST prepare a blank formatted diskette and label it as  your
  138. SPPC OUTPUT DISK.  If you are using a hard disk system you do not
  139. need  an  SPPC  OUTPUT  DISK.   Use  of  the  SPPC OUTPUT DISK is
  140. explained in the User's Manual.

  143.                  LEARNING ABOUT THE SPPC PROGRAM
  144.  
  145.   Once  you have installed your copy of the SPPC program, call it 
  146. up by using the procedures described  above.   When  the  program
  147. appears  on  screen,  tap  the space bar until you see the Master 
  148. Menu.  When you see the Master  Menu,  choose  the  "Instruction"
  149. option.   When  you  do  that,  you  will  be  presented with the
  150. "Instructional Menu". 
  151.  
  152.   You may read the  entire  User's  Manual  right  on  screen  by
  153. selecting any of the topical options in the "Instructional Menu".
  154. However,  you will also see an option to print the User's Manual. 
  155. We urge you to either print or purchase  the  User's  Manual  and
  156. then  read  it!   It is very important because it explains how to 
  157. use the most powerful features of the program that are  available
  158. to you.

  161.                        COLOR CONFIGURATION 
  162.  
  163.   The  SPPC program automatically detects the use of a monochrome 
  164. or color board and monitor, so you do not  have  to  worry  about
  165. that.  It's all taken care of for you.  The program automatically
  166. configures itself to your system when you begin using it.
  167.  
  168.   However, some users own systems that use a color/graphics board 
  169. but a monochrome monitor.  If you have such a system  your  video
  170. screen  will  look  absolutely  AWFUL!  It may even go blank.  If 
  171. that happens to you, it is easily fixed and you  need  to  do  it
  172. only once.  Here's how.

  174.   If  you are using a dual floppy system, put your SPPC Disk 1 in
  175. Drive A and issue the commands

  180.   If you have installed your copy of the  SPPC  program  on  your

  187. re-configure your SPPC program as above but use the command

  192.                    USE AND PURCHASE CONDITIONS

  194.   The  Statistical  Package  for  the  Personal  Computer or SPPC 
  195. program is produced and copyrighted by the WALMYR Publishing  Co.
  196. You  may reproduce and distribute the Student Version of the SPPC 
  197. program in any manner provided that: (1)  you  do  not  sell  the
  198. program,  (2)  you do not charge any fees for use of the program,
  199. and (3) you do not change the program or any of its documentation
  200. in any manner whatsoever.

  202.   YOU MAY NOT DISTRIBUTE THE COMMERCIAL VERSION OF THE PROGRAM IN

  208. MAKE A COPY FOR A FRIEND

  210.   If  you  would  like for another student or colleague to have a 
  211. copy of the program, you can prepare such a  copy  quite  easily.
  212. First,  copy the SPPC Distribution Diskettes onto newly formatted 
  213. blank floppies.  Then put the copy of the SPPC Disk 1 into  Drive
  214. A and issue the commands

  219.   Your  friend  or  colleague will instantly have a fresh copy of
  220. the Student Version of the SPPC program.

  223. SUGGESTED FEATURES 
  224.  
  225.   If you use the SPPC in your courses you  may  come  to  realize
  226. that there are special statistical procedures that you would like
  227. to  have included in program.  By all means, write to us and give 
  228. us your suggestions.  After  all,  the  purpose  of  making  this
  229. Student  Version  available to all students and instructors is to 
  230. support classroom instruction and to provide students a means  of
  231. using  their statistical training after completion of the course;
  232. maybe even following graduation!

  234.   We cannot guarantee that all suggestions will  be  incorporated
  235. into  the  program.  We do guarantee that all suggestions will be 
  236. taken very seriously!  In addition, we make no  claim  to  having
  237. knowledge of all the procedures that you might suggest.  Help us.
  238. If  you  want  a procedure to be included in the program, send us 
  239. the algorithm or at least give us a readily  available  reference
  240. where we may obtain it.

  245.   Those  who  purchase  the  software will be notified of updates

  250. your card back telling you the latest version that is  available.
  251. Then,  if  you want the latest Student Version of the program you
  252. can send us four formatted diskettes and a stamped self-addressed 
  253. return mailer.  If you already have a copy of  the  program  just
  254. return your original diskettes for updating.

  267. waiting, it could be awhile before we get to your request.  Do be
  268. patient with us.  We will respond.

  270.   If you are absolutely desperate to obtain a copy of the Student
  271. Version  of  the  program  (or  an update of it), you may wish to
  272. enclose an "expedite" fee.  If you enclose a check or money order
  273. in the amount of $25.00 we will mail your copy within 24 hours of

  277. BUG REPORTS

  279.   Unfortunately,  no  large program is flawless.  Send us any bug 
  280. report or suggestion.  We'll correct bugs  immediately  and  send
  281. you  a  corrected  copy  of the program.  If you detect a bug, be 
  282. sure to tell us exactly what you did and describe the problem  in
  283. detail.   If we can't find the bug, we can't fix it.  Again, help
  284. us so that we may help you.

  319. repaired or replaced by the WALMYR Publishing Co. at NO CHARGE to
  320. the customer, if it is returned within 30 days of the date it was
